Due to the large number of free or inexpensive Internet communication services, ibiblio has stopped accepting new email lists. Below are a few alternatives. Some behave much like an email list. However, a different kind of application may be closer to what you need.
**Google groups** Free. A Google group looks and smells like an email list. They're easy to manage, especially through the free version of a Google apps account.
**Yahoo groups** Free. Similar to Google groups, with slightly different features. http://groups.yahoo.com/
**iContact** Free up to 500 subscribers. Email marketing service but works well for sending announcements. http://www.icontact.com/
**MailChimp** Free up to 2000 subscribers and 12,000 messages/month. Email marketing service but works well for sending announcements. http://mailchimp.com/
**Meetup** Not free. Starts at $12/month. More of a group and activity management tool. http://www.meetup.com/
**Facebook groups** Free. Why not?
**Twitter** Free. Again, why not? Just have people subscribe to your feed. Or everyone subscribe to each other's feeds.
